Lately, the brides I’ve encountered seem to use the terms “place card” and “escort card” interchangeably. Hoping to shed some light on the subject I wanted to propose the question, are they the same? No, but they are both used for your guests to identify where their seats are located.
Our escort card tables are typically positioned in the lobby or exterior of a reception room. They may often have a large scale floral arrangement or other décor element to invite your guests over to pick up their escort cards. Remember, this card typically states the name or names of your guests and table number where they are sitting. This card “escorts” the guest to their seat.
Alternatively, when open seating is not appropriate (like at our smaller engagements), but an escort card table is not necessary, a place card comes into play. This is usually found at the guest’s table at their place setting. We also recommend accompanying your place cards with a seating chart.
Regardless of your event size, remember to always make your card display impressive. Whether you surrounding them with flowers, candlelight, or something personalized, your guests will use it as a keepsake for years to come.
