In the beginning of May we worked on a wedding at the Northerly Island Visitors Center which is the old airport terminal from Meigs field. If you’re from Chicago, I’m sure you’ve heard the story about Mayor Daley sending private crews to destroy the runway in the middle of the night several years ago. Definitely one of his more infamous deeds! Needless to say it’s a very unique setting and well-suited for brides looking for something unique. Christine and Erich were just those type of clients. They had a very specific vision in mind using bold, bright hues of purple and chartreuse green with accented of blue.
We
constructed modern iron candelabras filled with candlelight. At the base of
the candelabra sat a mixture of dendrobium orchids, kermit poms, hypericum
berries, hyacinth, tulips, and stock in shades of purple, fuchsia, chartreuse green,
and blue. These arrangements were placed on half the tables.
On the other tables were sprays of fuchsia dendrobium orchids accented with
hanging votive candlelight.
Napkin
accents of green kermit poms were set at each guests table setting.
Cherry
Blossoms were in season in early May and we loved being able to use them on
their own to create a beautiful, simple, and elegant arrangement on the escort
card table.
The
cake was embellished with blue cornflower and hyacinth (true blue flowers are
hard to come by!)
The
ceremony took place at the Graham Taylor Chapel on the University of Chicago
campus. It was an intimate setting warmed with candlelight lining the
outer aisle, a chartreuse green aisle runner, and clusters of hydrangea hung in
blue satin pew cones embellished with crystals.
For
Christine’s bouquet we used tons of fuchsia phealonopsis orchids to
create a bold , vivid bouquet. The bridesmaids carried bouquet of
chartreuse green dendrobium orchids and cymbidium orchids. All the
bouquets were cuffed by green hypericum berries and looped ti leaves.
We received a great email from the bride after the wedding – this is the reason we do what we do!
“Jenny -
Erich and I cannot thank you enough for the beautiful floral arrangements you provided on our wedding day. We were absolutely impressed with all the flowers and my first look at the pictures totally confirmed that! The candelabras turned out amazing and everyone commented on how original and elegant they were!...You were really a joy to work with and thanks again for putting up with my endless emails and changes. When I started planning the wedding - I didn't really think flowers would make much of a difference but your work really changed my mind!!!
Best,
Christine”
